Most small business websites don't need constant work, but they do benefit from a check-up every so often. If any of the following sound familiar, it may be time for a refresh.

1. It is difficult to use on a phone

More visitors than ever browse on a mobile. If text is too small, buttons are hard to tap, or the layout breaks on a smaller screen, that is worth fixing first.

2. Your prices and opening hours are out of date

It happens quietly over time. If a customer calls asking about something that changed months ago, it's a sign the site needs updating.

3. It takes a while to load

A slow website loses patience quickly. Simplifying pages and trimming anything unnecessary usually solves this.

4. There is no clear way to get in touch

If a visitor has to hunt for your phone number or email, some of them simply won't bother.

5. It just looks tired

Design moves on. If your site hasn't changed in several years, it can start to look dated even if nothing is technically wrong with it.
